Selectmen's Minutes - November 6, 1990

Meeting called to order at 8:00 P.M.

Board held hearing for Sunday sales of alcoholic beverages on December 23 and December 30, 1990.  Motion made by Mrs. Fasci, 2nd by Murdoch that on December 23 and December 30, 190, Sunday sales will be allowed from 12 to 6 p.m.  Voted 4-0.

Mr. Dynan read letter from the District Attorney's Office into minutes regarding violation of Open Meeting Law on July 17 and July 23, 1990.  (on file)  Mr. Nugent was asked to check to see if minutes can be released with ongoing negotiations.

Commendation to Patrolman Joseph Larkin postponed to the 13th of November.

Mrs. Murdoch concerned about increasing the number of Constables to be elected.  Tabled action.  A letter will be sent to Donald Ferguson and August Silva notifying them of the discussion and requesting their input in writing before
the end of the month.

Announced that there will be two vacancies on the Recreation Commission.  Those persons that applied previously will be asked if they are still interested.  Applications will be received until November 29.  Appointments will be made on December 4.

Assessors addressed the Board.  Discussion on recap sheet.  Asked Board to approve $246 excess levy capacity.  Moved by Mrs. Murdoch, 2nd Crowley.  Voted 4-0 to approve as recommended.  Tax rate has been set at $10.85 per 1000.  7.33 schools, 3.52 general government.

Discussion held regarding holding a mock Town Meeting on January 9, 1991.  Department heads and specific groups will be asked to attend.  This will be held at Indian Head School.

Motion made by Mrs. Murdoch, 2nd Vess to post the Smith-Nawazelski land for "no hunting".  2nd Vess.  5-0 vote.

At 8:30 p.m. grievance heard submitted by Judith Hatch.  On motion by Mrs. Murdoch, 2nd Vess, Board voted to pay Mrs. Hatch $111.12 for one overtime shift.  Police Chief will be notifed that in the future she is to be notified prior to part-time patrolmen or dispatchers for open shifts.
